Principal's Message

Greetings, Northlake Knights!

This is your principal calling all brave, curious, and adventure-seeking Knights to assemble! Of all the incredible quests a person can embark on—exploring uncharted lands, scaling giant mountains, or cracking secret codes—there is one quest that stands above them all as the ultimate noble pursuit: The Quest for Knowledge!

Here at Northlake Elementary, our mission is to sharpen our minds and strengthen our character every single day! Whether we are embarking on epic reading adventures, vanquishing tricky math challenges, or unleashing our creative talents, our hallways are filled with unstoppable Knights ready to conquer new ideas!

We are especially proud to offer extraordinary world language adventures through our Dual Language Immersion (DLI) programs. Here at Northlake, our Knights aren't just learning—they're becoming global leaders!

Chinese DLI (Grades 4–6): Our upper grade Knights are mastering Mandarin, unlocking rich culture and language skills that build big futures!

Spanish DLI (Grades 1–3): Our younger Knights build early bilingual fluency in Spanish, opening doors to new friends and global perspectives!

To make our quest successful, every Knight upholds our sacred code of honor: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Ready, and Be Safe. When we honor each other with respect, take ownership of our actions, stand ready to conquer each day's challenges, and keep our castle safe for everyone, we build a kingdom where every student feels empowered to take risks, ask big questions, and learn from mistakes.

Attendance Matters
Missing a day of school here and there may not seem like much, but absences add up.

When a student misses 2 days of school per month

The student will miss 20 school days in one year.
The student will miss 30 hours of math over one school year.
The student will miss 60 hours of reading and writing over one school year.
By graduation, the student will miss over 1 full year of school.

When a student misses 4 days of school per month

The student will miss 40 school days in one year.
The student will miss 60 hours of math over one school year.
The student will miss 120 hours of reading and writing over one school year.
By graduation, the student will miss over 2 full years of school.

Excusing an Absence on Skyward

To excuse a student on the app:

When parents sign up for the Skyward app, they will select a four-digit code.
Put in your four-digit code and continue to the app
Select the “hamburger button” (the triple bar or trigram symbol) on the top right.
From here you have two options, the first option (the message tab), will show you through the notification when your student was marked absent and what you need to excuse. With the attendance tab you simply submit a request.

Either of these two options will open a pop-up.
Complete the following information:
Student
Date/Time
Reason
Comment (optional – but very helpful, especially if you want to “excuse 2^nd hour”)
If you have more than one student and want this attendance request submitted for another student (maybe your family will be attending a funeral and all students need to be excused) then you can “Copy” the request and select additional students.

To submit a request from the website:

Click on the Families tab across the top
Click on Skyward for Parents
Log in
On the top right click student (if you only have one student you will just see your student’s name)
In the drop-down menu select the student’s name you need to excuse
Select Attendance in the menu on the left hand side
Click on the hyperlink at the top of the page “Absence Request.”
An “Add Request” pop-up block will open
Complete the following blocks:
Date/Time
Reason
Comment (optional, but once again, very helpful)
Save
Once you have “Saved” you will receive an email notification that an absence request has been submitted.
After the request has been processed, parents will receive a notification in Skyward
“(Student’s name) Absence Request has been (approved or denied)
The Absence Request submitted for (student) on (date) has been (approved or denied).
If a request is denied, a reason must be provided. It will then say “Go to your Absence Requests for further information.”

We are so excited that you are interested in volunteering! Volunteers are a vital part of our district, and we appreciate YOU!

Tooele County School District utilizes BChex for volunteer applications and signing up for volunteer opportunities. Please follow the steps provided to sign up!

Register and complete the application.
Applications will be reviewed, and you will be contacted if further information is needed.
Once approved, watch your in-box for invites to opportunities that match your interest.

The school district requires a background check for all volunteers before they can help at a school.
