Principal's Message

Dear Students, Parents, Teachers, Staff, and Community Members,

Welcome back to Northlake Elementary! As we open our doors for a new school year, it's our honor to extend a warm welcome to all our new and returning students, parents, and valued members of our school community.

Northlake Elementary’s mission is to empower students to achieve their individual greatness, and that commitment drives everything we do. We believe every student possesses unique talents and immense potential, and our dedicated staff is ready to nurture those abilities, inspire a love for learning, and provide the support each student needs to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

As we begin this year, we hope to make it amazing. We will continually strive to give every student what they need to be happy and successful. We will work to ensure that every student feels safe and supported by those around them. We will consistently work to build an atmosphere where students help and build up one another. As we start the year with many high goals for our students, we also want to issue challenges to our stakeholders.

We challenge our students to attend school regularly, stay focused on their schoolwork, treat others with kindness, and be their best selves. We challenge our teachers and staff members to have positive and educational interactions with students every day, caring for our students' social, emotional, and intellectual needs. We challenge our parents to support their children, being actively engaged in their child’s learning by helping them attend school regularly and having meaningful conversations with them about school and friends. We challenge all our stakeholders to support the learning and development of our students every single day.

We hope all our students, parents, teachers, staff, and other community members will thoughtfully consider these challenges and make a meaningful commitment to the success of our students, joining me in saying…

Excusing an Absence on Skyward

To excuse a student on the app:

When parents sign up for the Skyward app, they will select a four-digit code.
Put in your four-digit code and continue to the app
Select the “hamburger button” (the triple bar or trigram symbol) on the top right.
From here you have two options, the first option (the message tab), will show you through the notification when your student was marked absent and what you need to excuse. With the attendance tab you simply submit a request.

Either of these two options will open a pop-up.
Complete the following information:
Student
Date/Time
Reason
Comment (optional – but very helpful, especially if you want to “excuse 2^nd hour”)
If you have more than one student and want this attendance request submitted for another student (maybe your family will be attending a funeral and all students need to be excused) then you can “Copy” the request and select additional students.
Submit

To submit a request from the website:

Click on the Families tab across the top
Click on Skyward for Parents
Log in
On the top right click student (if you only have one student you will just see your student’s name)
In the drop-down menu select the student’s name you need to excuse
Select Attendance in the menu on the left hand side
Click on the hyperlink at the top of the page “Absence Request.”
An “Add Request” pop-up block will open
Complete the following blocks:
Date/Time
Reason
Comment (optional, but once again, very helpful)
Save
Once you have “Saved” you will receive an email notification that an absence request has been submitted.
After the request has been processed, parents will receive a notification in Skyward
“(Student’s name) Absence Request has been (approved or denied)
The Absence Request submitted for (student) on (date) has been (approved or denied).
If a request is denied, a reason must be provided. It will then say “Go to your Absence Requests for further information.”

Full Day Schedule: 8:50 AM- 3:35 PM Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday

Half Day Schedule: 8:50 AM- 12:30 PM Wednesdays

Kindergarten

Please park in the parking lot and walk to drop off/pickup at the kindergarten doors. Please do not drop off students before 8:30am. Kindergarten playground opens at 8:30am. Doors open at 8:45am.

Full Day Kindergarten 8:50am - 3:35pm

Wednesday ½ Day 8:50 - 12:30am

Kindergarten AM Session 8:50am - 11:40am (Monday-Friday)

PM busing not provided for the half day session.

Preschool

Preschool AM Session 9:00am - 11:40am

Drop off from 8:55am – 9:00am. Pick up 11:40am

Preschool PM Session 12:40pm - 3:20pm

Drop off from 12:35pm - 12:40pm. Pick up 3:20pm

Please park your car during pickup and drop off. Walk to the Preschool pickup/drop off area.
After class has started parents will need to first stop at the office and sign their student in as tardy. Then continue down the hall to walk their student into the preschool teacher.
We ask that the parents please stay with their student until they are checked in with the preschool teacher.
