TCSD Board of Education hires new superintendent

Board President Melissa Rich said, “We are excited to have Dr. Ernst as our new Tooele County School District superintendent. This was a difficult process. The board interviewed four great candidates, but Mark stood out as the top candidate.”

Board Vice President Camille Knudson added, “During this process, our goal was to hire the best person for our school district. We asked our community for their feedback and tried to keep that at the forefront during the interview process. We were looking for someone who would represent what our community was looking for and who would put our students first.”

Ernst has been in education for 18 years. He is currently serving as the TCSD Interim Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent. Previously he was the Grantsville Area Director for four years. He also served as a secondary principal for nine years and taught history for four years.

“The opportunity to serve as Superintendent of Schools for the Tooele County School District is humbling,” said Ernst. “We have excellent schools, employees, parents, and students; I look forward to continuing our work in providing outstanding educational opportunities for students in Tooele County.”
