Disclosure Statement
Dear Parents,
Please be aware of and talk to your child about these important class procedures and classroom management tools:
Rules and Discipline
Our School and Classroom rules are:
Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Ready!
We will be practicing each of these rules so that it will be clear what is expected of the children wherever they are in our school. Within our classroom we will also be adhering to CHAMPS. This includes respecting conversation levels, raising hands when help is needed and staying in seats unless given permission. These guidelines help us maintain social distancing guidelines.
We will be actively using Class Dojo. Points can be accumulated throughout the school year and we will award students when they reach milestones. As parents, you will have the opportunity to be alerted when your child has been awarded points and alternatively, when your student loses points. Additionally, pictures of praiseworthy behavior can be shared through Class Dojo. If you would like to talk to us in more detail please feel free to contact us through Dojo, email or by calling the school.
Parent Communicator
School information, homework, and weekly newsletters will be sent home in the parent communicator folder. This folder will come home each day. PLEASE help your child get their homework done and sent back to school in a timely manner. Pictures of completed work can be sent through Class Dojo.
Homework- English
Your child will come home with a monthly reading tracking sheet and a weekly reading fluency sheet. Due to COVID-19, these sheets will not come back to school. PLEASE take a picture of the completed work and send them to Ms. McRae through Class Dojo. If you have concerns about access to Class Dojo, please contact me for alternate options. 2nd Graders should be reading 10-20 minutes each day. Reading practice is the best way to improve reading! (Seriously, Ms. McRae will hound this all year.) Important words will be sent home Thursday to be tested the following Thursday.
Homework- Chinese
Your child will come home with math and Chinese writing homework, Monday thru Thursday. For Chinese writing homework, please take a picture of the completed work and send them to Ms. Xu through Class Dojo. For the math homework, please have your child put them in the homework folder and bring them to the school. On Fridays, students will do the Chinese reading homework. Please check our class website if you need any help: https://nl2ndgradedli.weebly.com.
Birthdays & Celebrations
Birthdays will be celebrated in both classrooms, however if you would like to send a treat on your child’s birthday, each treat should be packed individually, and the whole package should be sealed. Treats need to be prepackaged this way in the store for them to be allowed in school. Please let us know ahead of time if you plan to send treats. Unfortunately, homemade treats are against district policy so all treats will need to be purchased at the store.
Parent Volunteers
Volunteers are currently not allowed in TCSD schools. If this changes I would be open to have volunteers in the classroom.
Enter & Exit Point for 2nd Grade
Second grade students will enter and exit the building from the same assigned door for our grade each day. That door is found on the south side of the building. The door will be the furthest east door. Parents will be allowed to walk students to and from the door. Please remember to remain masked and social distance when walking to and from the back of the building with others who are doing the same. The door will not be open until the first bell at 8:45 a.m.
WOOHOO you finished the disclosure! We love parents and we’re looking forward to the coming year. LET’S DO THIS THING.
With Love,
Ms. McRae & Ms. Xu
